Unregulated increases in resource extraction, production, and consumption, as well as nonsustainable patterns of trade and investment, are contributing to long-term burdens on the Earth’s and environment that are beginning to threaten long-term ecological and human well-being and even survival.  The impacts of such extraction on indigenous and subaltern communities across the Global South has consequences for governance and security, as well.  Social and environmental justice demand that strategies and solutions be devised and implemented to reduce and eliminate such problems.
